About Us

 The Ikenne Development Association (IDA) is the foremost community development organization representing the indigenes of Ikenne-Remo in Ogun State, Nigeria. Established in 1977, IDA was born out of a collective vision to empower the people of Ikenne-Remo through sustainable development initiatives that address their social, infrastructural, health, and educational needs. Over the years, the association has played an instrumental role in driving the transformation of Ikenne-Remo, making it one of the most developed and well-recognized communities in Ogun State.

At the heart of IDA’s mission is the belief in the power of self-reliance. Our community-driven approach to development empowers local indigenes to actively participate in and lead projects that improve the quality of life for all residents. IDA is a symbol of unity, dedication, and a deep commitment to progress.

Our Mission: Our mission is to foster holistic community development in Ikenne-Remo by improving access to quality healthcare, education, infrastructure, and social welfare. Through collaborative efforts with indigenes, local leaders, and government agencies, we aim to create a sustainable environment where every individual has the opportunity to thrive. Our work is grounded in a belief that true development must be driven from within the community, by those who are most affected by it.

Our Vision: IDA envisions a self-sufficient and thriving Ikenne-Remo that serves as a model of community-driven development in Nigeria. We aspire to build a community where every resident has access to essential services, economic opportunities, and a high quality of life. Our vision extends beyond today, focusing on long-term prosperity and growth, ensuring that Ikenne-Remo remains an ideal place to live, work, and raise families for generations to come.

Our History: The Ikenne Development Association was founded in response to the growing need for organized community action in Ikenne-Remo. With a population of fewer than 400,000, Ikenne-Remo was a small town but was eager to chart its own path to development. The founders of IDA recognized that, to improve living conditions and achieve sustainable growth, a collective approach was necessary. Over the years, IDA has succeeded in implementing numerous impactful projects that have significantly shaped the town’s development.

One of the defining characteristics of IDA’s success is its ability to mobilize local resources, human capital, and expertise to implement these projects. Unlike many other communities, Ikenne-Remo has consistently relied on the commitment of its indigenes, rather than external funding, to bring its development goals to fruition. This self-sufficiency has been a hallmark of the association’s work and has allowed IDA to execute projects that reflect the true needs and aspirations of the community.

Our Leadership: IDA’s leadership is composed of dedicated and visionary individuals who are committed to the betterment of Ikenne-Remo. The leadership of IDA works tirelessly to ensure that projects are well-executed, resources are managed effectively, and the community’s needs are addressed in a timely and impactful manner. Our leaders are not only visionaries but also community members who understand the unique challenges and opportunities Ikenne-Remo faces.

Our Projects: Over the years, IDA has successfully implemented a wide range of projects that have transformed Ikenne-Remo. Some of the major projects include:

• Ikenne General Hospital: What began as a small community hospital has now been upgraded into a General Hospital, thanks to the collective efforts of IDA and the Ogun State Government. The hospital continues to provide essential healthcare services to the community.

• Ikenne Community High School: Established in 1980, this school has been central to providing quality education to the youth of Ikenne. Although the school is now managed by the Ogun State Government, IDA’s vision and efforts paved the way for its success.

• Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences (Olabisi Onabanjo University): IDA played a pivotal role in relocating the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences to Ikenne, providing land, infrastructure, and facilities that have enhanced medical education in the region.

• Multipurpose Hall: The construction of an ultra-modern multipurpose hall has created a hub for community activities, from social gatherings to educational seminars and cultural events.

• Police Divisional Headquarters & Post Office Complex: These essential facilities were built by IDA to enhance security and communication within the town. They continue to serve as vital public resources.

Challenges and Future Goals: While IDA has accomplished much, we face ongoing challenges, particularly with economic downturns and the difficulty of securing volunteers for projects. Additionally, there are concerns about the government taking over initiatives initiated by IDA, sometimes without adequate recognition or support.

Despite these challenges, IDA remains determined to continue its work. Our future goals include expanding our healthcare facilities, improving education and training programs, developing infrastructure, and tackling key social issues in Ikenne-Remo.
